The PlayStation Vita has received much attention lately as the successor of the PSP and the fans have been wondering if they will go digital only for the Vita. Digital only would mean that you only download the games, and never actually purchase them in CD or UMD form. Sony has abandoned the UMD but still offers some games on memory sticks. They do not believe the time is right for digital only, the average connection around the globe is pretty low and setting games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss as digital only, weighing in at 4 gigabytes; may just be too much for some consumers to download. Sony tried digital only in the PSP Go and some buyers did not particularly like this, so it’s good to know Sony has learned from that. They also take into account that some people like going to retail stores as well, so they do not want to limit the consumer’s options. The PSP Go originally had trouble with its digital only downloads as Sony did not compete with the price of a retail store games which made it difficult to sell games and PSP Go was looking very unattractive. Do keep in mind again that Vita is region-free so you will be able to get games from any region without any problems.

It seems that the path that Sony is taking with the digital games is the right way as its good for people in North America who like to pick up Japanese titles if they want to that are exclusive to Japan only, but now will not be. Release date of Vita is slated for February 22nd of 2012 and Sony has announced the ability to get Vita a week before launch with pre-ordering their first edition bundle. Sony has decided to give their most loyal fans early access to the platform as details include the U.S. bundle includes a PS Vita 3G + Wi-Fi model, a limited edition case, 4GB PS Vita Memory Card, and the Little Deviants game for $349.99 (MSRP). The Canadian bundle includes a Wi-Fi model, a limited edition case, 4GB PS Vita Memory Card, and Little Deviants game for $299.99 (MSRP). Best of all, you can pick up the PS Vita First Edition Bundle on February 15, 2012. This will be the fans opportunity to get it early before anyone else.

Vita has a new title release called Marvel Pinball to come with launch on Vita’s launch day (February 22nd, 2012) Zen Studios that made the game said the Vita is a really amazing platform and that it is a great platform to develop on. Zen Studios is taking advantage of most of the Vita’s features including both front and back-panel touch support, gyro sensor, accelerometer and last but not least, cross-platform functionality with PSN. Vita seems to be also taking advantage of cross-platform gaming with the PS3 and PC with Dust 514, a new shooter coming in spring of 2012 that is supposed to be a massive scale FPS. To remind fans Vita will be launching with a custom Twitter app and we will be awaiting news for new games and apps coming for Vita like Facebook and Tumblr.
