PS Vita for October 2011?
Sony has been trying to compete with Nintendo in the hand held video game market since the release of the PlayStation Portable. While they have yet to be able to match the sales of their competitor, they are planning on releasing a new hand held gaming device that promises to be better than anything we have ever seen before. This device is being called the PlayStation Vita, and new rumors are speculating that you will be able to have the PlayStation Vita in October of this year. A PS Vita release in October would make a lot of sense because it would allow for the system to pick up steam prior to the holiday season.
Only hardcore gamers have heard of all of the features of the Vita, but once everyone sees it in action there will be millions of people that will want to get their hands on the PlayStation Vita in October. The technology in the Vita allow it be the first hand held gaming device to feature motion controls and a high definition touch screen. The 5 inch OLED touchscreen will display games with a graphics quality that will be able to compete with the PlayStation 2. There is not a current hand held gaming system that can claim these facts, which is why the PS Vita release in October will be huge.
Sony has learned for their mistakes with the PSP, so they plan on releasing multiple high quality games for the PlayStation Vita in October. Sony has already announced that the PS Vita will get its own Uncharted, Little Big Planet, Call of Duty, Killzone and Metal Gear Solid games. These are some of the big time releases that the PlayStation Portable did not receive. This shows that both Sony and the video game developers are excited about the Vita and what it means for hand held gaming. There is no word on if any of these games will be available at the PS Vita release in October, but Sony is almost guaranteed to have at least one of them available.
Upon the release of the PlayStation Vita in October, there will be two different versions of the device available. The first is the WiFi only Vita that will cost $249. This device will be able to wireless connect to any WiFi connection to allow for online gaming with anyone in the world. The second type of Vita will feature both WiFi and 3G, which will cost an addition $50. 3G support has never been used in a gaming device, and it will allow for you to access the internet and play games against people throughout the world from any location. The 3G version of the Vita will have to be purchased through the mobile carrier AT&T and an additional internet package will also have to be purchased. While the extra expense may not be for everyone, it is something that no other company is currently trying to do. Only time will tell if Sony is successful, but it currently looks like the PS Vita release in October will be a huge event in gaming.
